Robert H. Young

Bob Young recently retired from Central Vermont Public Service Corporation (CVPS), a company he served as president and chief executive officer for 15 years. During that period he launched a cultural and environmental transformation of CVPS that led to national recognition for efficiency, transparency and creativity. He began his career in the energy industry with stints at Bechtel, the Arlington Exploration Company, and the Bay State Gas Company. He also served as a senior management consultant for Arthur D. Little Inc. in Cambridge, Mass., the world's oldest management consulting firm. Two innovative CVPS programs have made a large impact on Green Mountain College. GMC faculty and students helped the company research the potential for hybrid and electric plug-in vehicles through the CVPS Plug 'n Go program. From methane extracted from cow manure, CVPS created a renewable energy source and provided another way for Vermont family farms to stay in business, and in 2006 Green Mountain became the largest CVPS Cow Power Customer. In 2009 the US Department of Energy recognized Cow Power as its Green Power Program of the year, and in April 2010, Forbes magazine named CVPS one of the 100 most trustworthy companies in the U.S. Bob completed his undergraduate education at Beloit College and received his MBA from Stanford. In 2011he received an honorary doctorate from Green Mountain College.
