Lorene F. Wilbur (Rene) served as deputy general secretary for administration of the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM), The United Methodist Church, for 17 years. Prior to that, she was a buyer for a jeweler and a department store, specializing in china and crystal. A graduate of Trinity College of Burlington, Vt. with a B.S. in business administration, Rene did graduate studies in theology at United Theological Seminary in Montreal and Union Theological Seminary in New York. She holds a Master of Divinity degree from New York Theological Seminary (NYTS). Rene is vice-chair of the Board of Trustees of United Methodist-related Green Mountain College, where she chairs the Academic Affairs/Student Life Committee, and a member of the NYTS Development Committee. She is also a member of the World Methodist Council and was elected to the General Conference of The United Methodist Church in 2012. Currently, in the New England Conference of The United Methodist Church, Rene is the conference lay leader. She also serves on the Strategic Planning Task Force and the Imagine No Malaria Task Force. In 2012, Rene was honored with a “Valiant Woman Award” by the Rutland Area Unit of Church Women United, and also with a “Woman on the Front Line of Gender Justice” award by the Moody-Shepherd Resource Center for Women of Faith (NYC). Rene and her husband, Stan, reside in Tinmouth, Vt.They share the joy of four children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They are active members of Tinmouth Community United Methodist Church, Tinmouth Historical & Genealogical Society, and The Old Firehouse Concert Committee.
