At GMC you have personal support and choice in crafting the educational and community experience that fits you best.
An important aspect of your experience here will be how you chose to participate in all the academic and non-academic opportunities we have to offer. While sustainability will be woven throughout every academic path at GMC, you will have lots of choice and support in crafting the education and community experience that fits you best.
Partners in Your Success
As a first year student at Green Mountain College, you’ll seek advice on choosing a major and outlining your academic goals. As your college career progresses, you’ll be exploring personal and professional aspirations with faculty and staff in the classroom and field, mapping your progress toward graduation and beyond. The student advising system at GMC is an ongoing conversation between you, your faculty advisor, and staff members dedicated to your success. The new Center for Careers, Advising, and Teaching (or CAT), centrally located on campus will help you excel in college while meeting your academic and career goals.
Committed, Caring Faculty
Our faculty members are profound thinkers, committed teachers, and partners in your academic journey. Over 90% of our full-time faculty members hold the highest level degree in their field of study and several have received Fulbright awards for excellence in teaching and scholarship. With a faculty to student ratio of 14:1 you’ll receive individual attention and guidance to help you realize your greatest potential. Classes are small, so you won’t get lost in the crowd—national surveys prove that GMC excels in individual attention provided by faculty. At GMC you’ll also likely run into your professors outside of the classroom—in the bleachers at basketball games, at faculty hosted potluck dinners, in the dining hall, on the farm. GMC faculty members are highly experienced at guiding each student on their individual journey and can serve as mentors throughout your college career and beyond.
Feels like Family
This is how fellow students describe the close-knit, positive, and lively scene at GMC. Most students live on campus, forming a close community that reflects our emphasis on sustainable living. Our dining hall—which features soaring ceilings and classic round tables and award-winning fare—is a popular gathering place. Concerts, festivals, a campus farm, and outdoor adventure programs are just the beginning. It’s easy to find “your crew” when you can join any of 40 clubs and teams. Students here are engaged, focused on the future, and driven to innovate—all with a shared and profound respect for each individual and the community.
Right at Home
The residential life experience at Green Mountain fosters individualism and community by giving students a large degree of ownership and self-governance over their living arrangements. Theme floors create their own charters. Students on the sustainable living floor communally cook evening meals together. The Recreation Floor attracts students who are passionate about the outdoors and the student-run coffee house offers fair-trade organic coffee in a homey setting with frequent open mic, poetry, and musical entertainment. And you are encouraged to create your own club to meet your own personal interests. Just in the past year students have created an Entrepreneurship Club, and a Circus Arts club is in the formation stage. What are your ideas? We look forward to finding out!
