The Green Mountain College chemistry minor is pioneering the approach of “green” chemistry: reducing or eliminating hazardous substances in the design, manufacture and application of chemical products.
Chemistry Program Information:
From atoms and molecules to kinetic theory and states of matter, the field of chemistry examines the very building blocks of life on Earth. Now, study in green chemistry is opening up new horizons. Green chemistry focuses on the reduction or elimination of the generation of hazardous substances in the design, manufacture and application of chemical products. GMC’s program places special emphasis on green chemistry–a topic that fits well with Green Mountain’s environmental mission. GMC Professor Sue Sutheimer is a leader in this field–she is a 2010 recipient of the American Chemical Society & Committee on Environmental Improvement Award for Incorporating Sustainability into Chemistry Education.
