GMC in Action

From ice climbing in the Adirondacks to studying the chemistry of biomass ash, there is no shortage of academic and extracurricular activities at GMC. Below, you can watch videos of GMC students in action.




GMC Visits Burton Snowboards
The Legal and Ethical Environment of Business class visited the Burton Snowboards HQ in Burlington with prof. Bill Prado to learn business law, ethics, and sustainability at the company. Students discussed with Burton's legal team how U.S. and international legal issues are managed across its global operations.



The Mountaineer
The Mountaineer is GMC's student run newspaper, and is now available online at themountaineer.org



Wilderness Challenge
Every year, incoming freshman have the opportunity to be a part of wilderness challenge - a 5 day expedition that includes backpacking, climbing, canoeing/kayaking, or service learning opportunities - as part of their freshman orientation. This video, produced by Zak Stark '15, highlights this year's Wilderness Challenge orientation.



Brunnenburg Castle
Every other year, students have the opportunity to live and learn at Brunnenburg Castle in Dorf Tirol, Italy, for an intensive semester in the autonomous province of northern Italy. Learn more about this block course here.



Biomass Facility
GMC's combined heat and power (CHP) biomass plant heats GMC's 155 acres of campus buildings by using green woodchips, a sustainable and renewable local fuel source. See more of it's facts and figures here.



Ornithology at GMC

Tiny House Project

SAGE Hall at GMC
Watch a video about SAGE Hall, GMC's newest residence hall which received LEED Gold certification, making it the seventh major gold certified building in Vermont and the first in Rutland County.



Essentials of International Mountaineering
Students will learn the fundamentals of running international mountaineering expeditions during this 20-day program in the Ishinca Valley of Peru. Curriculum related to technical mountaineering skills including rope-team travel, ice-axe and crampon use, glacier rescue, protection placement, movement skills, and camp craft.



High Tunnel Greenhouses on Cerridwen Farm
Watch a video about GMC's high tunnel greenhouse project. On Cerridwen Farm, students and faculty are researching growing season extension by use of high tunnel greenhouses and renewable energy technology.
