PE 692: Outdoor Summer Block (Graduate Intern)
• Co-led peers during a 35-day backcountry trip with an overall emphasis on safety, leadership, and appropriate expedition behavior during:
o Hiking section in Utah canyons. Focus was on doing and teaching backcountry living skills, map and compass skills of canyons, safe and efficient off-trail navigation and route finding, and perfecting Leave No Trace travel skills
o River Travel on the San Juan River. Focus was on paddling skills in hard shell kayaks and inflatable canoes, efficient maneuvering of a kayak in class II water, and practicing skills needed for running class III water.
o Rock Climbing and Mountain Biking in Wyoming. Focus was on acquisition and understanding of rope handling and knots, doing and teaching different belay styles, setting up and climbing on safe top-rope anchors, repelling, escaping belays, participation on a multi-pitch rock climb, safe mountain biking skills, leading and teaching mountain biking, and basic bike repair skills.
CSPA 210: Freshman Orientation “First Year Experience”
• Co-led freshmen students through an eight-week ropes course program that ended in a weekend camping experience.
• Aided administrative instructor in classroom courses on self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, empathy, time management, physical wellness, and adjustment to college life.
PE 132: Challenge Ropes Course
• Instructed students through an introductory ropes course program.
• Taught body belay, mechanical belay and knot tying necessary for high elements
• Supervised student belays.
PE 238: Outdoor Education Winter Camping
• Participated & supervised undergraduate students in 5 days of backcountry telemark skiing and winter camping in a quinzhee.
