Today I realized just how distant a solution is to problems of inequality. How is it that anyone can build such a beautiful ecovillage right outside one of the most polluted areas in the world? Furthermore, how can they drive away from their beautiful little village past the expansive Favela's and not feel guilt over their incredibly privileged way of living?
Is this beach real? The sand is so compacted, not a shell to be seen, immaculate. This is the first time I've stepped into the ocean. Oh, so warm from the long Brazilian summer, and oh, so salty, sucking the moisture from my skin. I love being carried by the waves; the power of the ocean is awfully humbling.
Am I really here?
