Dr. Vangie N. Blust's training is on interdisciplinary approach to life span human development. Sociology, psychology, women's studies, and cross-cultural studies intersect in her teaching of a variety of courses in the behavioral science and psychology programs. In addition to teaching, her previous experiences include being the director of the Child Development Laboratory at the University of the Philippines at Los Banos, director of the preschool program as an entry project in the Integrated Rural and Agricultural Development Program of the same university, and research director of Poultney Project CARE (Community Action to Reach the Elderly), a program funded by the Administration on Aging. Her interest in international studies has been evident in her spring semester (2002) stint at Hannam University, Taejon, South Korea as visiting professor of women's studies during her sabbatical leave, and her paper presentation and educational visit in Havana, Cuba. She has also traveled in her home country, the Philippines, Japan, and China.

Her current research works focus on perception of gender roles and gender inequality by American and Korean first year college students, and on older Korean women as farmers. Vangie attempts to integrate her interest in gerontology and women's studies with farming as the environmental context.
