"The psychological and aesthetic impulse which moves me to paint and to choose one image over another is a matter of deep importance to me. While I do not fully understand it, I know that it goes to the core of myself as an artist. These paintings reflect my relationship with the visual world. For the most part, I try to avoid the anecdotal, but at the same time, I am concerned with the relationship and interaction between people and their landscape. Coincidentally, I am totally involved with the formal aspect of the picture - the abstract qualities of light, color, space, and texture. In the end, the organization of these elements becomes the dominant aspect of my picture making and the thing I think most about during the painting process."
