Icons of the Civil Rights Movement: Pamela Chatterton Purdy '61
May 25 - June 12, 2009
Pamela Chatterton-Purdy '61 created “Icons of the Civil Rights Movement” to mark the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The exhibit includes 18 painted portraits of civil rights leaders or important events during the struggle for racial equality in the ‘50s and ‘60s.
It was on display at the United Methodist Center in Washington D.C. during the inauguration of President Barack Obama. The Frederick Douglass Museum hosted the exhibit for Black History Month in February.
