Your transportation choices in commuting to, from, and around Green
Mountain College significantly affect your carbon footprint. According to
the college’s 2011 Climate Action Plan, commuting, ground travel, and air
travel account for 10.5% of the college’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The Amtrack Rail can be taken out of Castleton and Rutland
to Albany, New York City, and other destinations. It even offers
a 15% discount to students!
If you plan on commuting to or from Green Mountain College by
car, see if anyone else needs a ride. Check out Go Vermont, GMC’s
platform for online ridesharing. Incentives for carpooling will also
be offered.
Rutland Southern Vermont Regional Airport services flights
out of Logan Airport in Boston that can take you south of
Rutland in just over an hour.

Green Mountain College is proud to provide incoming students with a guide
on how to live sustainably both on and off campus. This guide is full of tips on
how you can make small changes in your life to begin living in a way that is
less damaging to the environment. This guide highlights some of the steps GMC
has taken to become more environmentally responsible and provides tips on
how to reduce your environmental impact while still taking full advantage of
what GMC and Poultney, Vermont have to offer. This guide was created by
students for students to help make lessening your environmental impa
