A Transition to Personalized Medicine: Addressing the Disparity of Prostate Cancer in African American Men

Wednesday, December 14, 2016 - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Navigating generalized medicine through an extensive literature review, this talk will advocate for personalized medicine by presenting the factors that contribute to the disparity of prostate cancer in African American men. To help decrease the mortality rate from prostate cancer in this population, we must transition to personalized medicine with the understanding of genetics, lifestyle, and the acknowledgement of the presence of implicit bias. Physicians should consider practical measures to help reduce this discrepancy and further recognize that individuals will react independently to specific regimens. This Senior Honors Thesis will be presented by Brianna Alimonti, Biology ’17.
