Mixed media artist Amy Johnson will join us from Anchorage, Alaska to give a presentation reflecting on her experience as an artist. She will also address whether graduate school is the correct path, how to apply to graduate school and apply to grants/fellowships, balancing life and an art career, the influence on social media, and more.
Johnson is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work blurs the line between contemporary art and craft by combining installation, fiber arts, printmaking, photography, performance and video. She strategically weaves themes of fairy tales, art history, contemporary culture, fashion and social behavior to experimentally compose work that reflects her life and what surrounds her. Her work reveals the grandeur of our fleeting northern landscape, isolation, vulnerability and human endurance.
Artist presentation will be on Wednesday March 29 at 6:30, Withey Hall, East Room, followed by a reception at Taps.
