Fourth Annual Poultney Thanks & Giving Day

Tuesday, November 15, 2016

Thanks and Giving Day is a student-led initiative providing an opportunity for the campus community to give back to the town of Poultney by saying “Thank You” through a series of community service events and other activities, including three community meals on the day.

The 4th Annual Thanks & Giving Day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15, and we encourage whole classes and individuals to participate. We are looking for student leaders to extend their skills into the community as we plan this social capital building event.

Breakfast: 7-9 AM Poultney Methodist Church – Home-made sausage and biscuits, and local eggs will be served up with coffee and juice!

Info Table: 8-10 AM Poultney Public Library – Have questions? find volunteers here!

Gratitude Journals: 11-2 PM GMC Withey Hall – Come decorate your gratitude journal and make an entry for someone you love! Take home with you!

Lunch: 11:30-1:30 PM St. Raphael’s Church – Join Poultney High School and GMC for soup, bread, and apple crisp!

Soap-making: 1-2:30 PM Cerridwen Farm House – Learn how to make home-made soap!

DIY Home products: 1-2:30 PM GMC Withey Hall – Learn how to make home-made cleaning products!

Tree Nursery Help: 1-4 PM GMC Back Parking Lot – Volunteer with the Native Plant Nursery to winterize the plants in the garden and greenhouse.

Dinner: 4:30-6:30 PM GMC Withey Hall – A special meal with deliciously local ingredients and an opportunity to get to know students better! Dinner tickets will be available for the first 100 people at the door of the college’s dining hall.

Indigenous Speaker: 7-8 PM Withey Hall Downstairs, Gorge – Land Defender Vanessa Gray from Aamjiwnaang First Nation near Sarnia, Ontario’s “Chemical Valley,” will be speaking. Gray co-founded Aamjiwnaang & Sarnia Against Pipelines and is facing charges for non-violent direct action against the Enbridge Line 9 Pipeline.

Contra Dance: 8-11 PM Withey Hall Upstairs, East Room – Come dance the night away with live music and a caller!
