InterCultural Center
Mission
The InterCultural Center aims to help Green Mountain College to be a place where the quality of education is enhanced and enriched by a diverse campus community — where all the student body benefit from multicultural experiences. In this green place, ICC envisions GMC to be a place where a pervasive respect for cultural differences will create a supportive climate in which students are able to reach their academic potential and the entire campus will benefit from participation in a diverse community. ICC welcomes all students interested in fostering multicultural communication and understanding.
Goals
- To encourage a campus environment that is comfortable and conductive to learning and growth among diverse populations.
- To create awareness of all ethnic and cultural groups at GMC.
- To welcome and support international students and students of different cultures at GMC.
- To network, socialize, make new friends, and to be a positive voice on campus.
- To encourage the integration of multicultural perspectives into and across the GMC curriculum.
- To encourage research, scholarship, and creative activity in the area of Intercultural studies.
- To promote networking with other campuses and Intercultural Centers in Vermont.
- To develop and implement programs and services which celebrate diversity and enhance the GMC curriculum.
Languages
As a result of the diversity of Green Mountain College’s student body and because learning a second language is important for cultural understanding, the Intercultural Center keeps an updated list of these languages to help the Green Mountain Community as well as the Poultney a community. While the names of the students who speak each language are confidential, it is possible to contact the InterCultural Center who can then get in contact with individual students if a service is ever desired.
