Intercultural Governing Board

Name: Pragatee Dhakal, President
Hometown: Kathmandu
Country: Nepal

Why GMC:
GMC to me was a place where I was certain that I would not lose myself and it turned out even better than that! It is a college where you know every face and that everyone from faculty to friends are there for you with their constant support. At GMC, the environment fosters you to be creative and take leadership roles helping you discover yourself all over again.

Why ICC:
It is an institution where people will know me and appreciate my cultural uniqueness. A place where I learn to express and be proud of my culture as well as be tolerant and experience the richness of the diversity that exists. At ICC we are willing to accept discreteness among and within various cultures by 'hearing everyone out' and acknowledging and respecting differences. Yes, it is all about 'Being different together' !!

Name: Olesea Cojohari, Student Director
Hometown: Balti
Country: Moldova

Why GMC:
I am from Balti, Moldova (a tiny country located in Southeastern Europe, so if you've heard of it before, you probably know geography very well). I chose Green Mountain because I wanted to pursue my studies in a small, but diverse and friendly, environment. And I came to the right place. GMC is a community where one can study, participate in student clubs, research, work at the farm, play sports, and starting this year, be part of the Intercultural Center.

Why ICC:
ICC's main goal is to bring together students, faculty, and staff from different cultural backgrounds into a united community. As a member of the governing board, I am looking forward to contributing to the achievement of this objective and I am welcoming everyone to join!"

Name: Elisa Morales, Secretary
Hometown: Puerto Armuelles, Chiriqui
Country: Panama

Why GMC: The reason that I chose Green Mountain College was because it seemed like it had a great learning environment for any type of student.

Why ICC: ICC is important for the GMC community because it will bring together all the different cultures that are spread around campus, and it will give a sense of family and protection to those who would like to participate. Culture does not only mean coming from a different country, but coming from different upbringings and family backgrounds. It is important to make people realize that even though people come from the same country they have different cultures.

Name: Alfred Narh, Treasurer
Country: Ghana

Why GMC: I came to GMC for three reasons. First, its small size and environmental focus. Secondly, because of the excellent help I had during the admission process. Lastly, I decided to enroll because of the college’s academic performance and well qualified professors. I have not regretted my decision.

Why ICC: I joined ICC because I felt it was time for GMC to have such a center. Also, I felt, I had what it takes to lead and dedicate my time and effort to help both current and incoming students feel part of the community. Finally, I joined because I wanted to make a difference at GMC.
