Peer Tutoring Services
Peer Tutors are available during lab hours or by direct appointment.
To sign up for a tutor during lab hours:
- First check the binder in the Learning Center for available tutors and hours.
- In the appropriate time slot, write your full name, course name and professor’s name.
- Meet the tutor in the Learning Center at the chosen appointment time.
To access a tutor by direct appointment:
- Contact the tutor by phone or email to make an appointment.
- Meet the tutor in the Learning Center at the agreed upon appointment time.
To Become a Peer Tutor
Qualifications
- Achieved Sophomore status or higher
- Maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Provide recommendations from two faculty members (for the disciplines intended to tutor)
- Submit an application to the learning center and complete an interview
Training
- Intensive training (including shadowing of a current tutor) prior to their first tutoring session
- On-going training with Learning Center professional staff
Expectations
- Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Work scheduled hours
- Attend all training sessions
- Complete paperwork for all sessions (with tutee signature) and return forms to the Director of Academic Support Services in a timely fashion
- Follow the student conduct code as outlined in the Green Mountain College Student Handbook
- Communicate with Learning Center professional staff and tutees
- Maintain an honest, patient, flexible and sensitive demeanor
Failure to adhere to these expectations may result in dismissal from the peer tutoring position.
