Professor Mann has been a professional actress since 1980, working in theater, film and television in NYC and regionally. She has played leading roles in both classic and contemporary plays in theaters nationwide, including Playwright’s Horizons in NYC, Delaware Theatre Company, Barter Theatre in VA, Players Theatre in Ohio, Attic Theatre in Detroit, and most recently The Oldcastle Theatre in VT. She has appeared in national print ads and television commercials for Woman’s World, Citibank, American Airlines and Palmolive.

From 1988-2006 she was a Company Member of the Dorset Theatre Festival, Vt., where she performed in 20 productions and garnered four Best Actress Awards. In 2006 she became Co-Artistic Director of DTF, overseeing the Actors Conservatory Program. She directed THE HEIDI CHRONICLES in August 2006 with the Conservatory students.

Selected Publications
In addition to acting and directing, Paula Mann has worked as a freelance journalist, writing articles related to the performing arts for national periodicals. Her work has been published in Woman’s World, Backstage, Penthouse, Review, and American Way magazines.

Teaching
Professor Mann has been on the faculty of GMC since 2004. Her teaching curriculum includes Acting I, Acting II (scene study), Theater: Audience Environment; Speech Communications, Nature in Theater and Film, A Woman’s Place in Theater and Film, and ELA core course Voices of Community. She has directed GMC mainstage productions of the plays THE DINING ROOM (2006), MAJOR BARBARA (2007), and co-directed and appeared in OUR TOWN (2008). She also teaches acting for The Dorset Colony of the Arts, The Academy for Lifelong Learning, and The New England Suzuki Workshop

Current Work
In the fall of ’07 Mann appeared on stage in a leading role in the Oldcastle Theatre Company production and VT premiere of a new Lee Blessing play A BODY OF WATER. In November ’08, she played Mrs. Webb in Thornton Wilder’s OUR TOWN, which was a joint production with the Oldcastle Theatre; involving GMC faculty and students with community members and professional actors. Performances took place in GMC’s Ackley Theater and the Oldcastle Theatre in Bennington, Vt. Next fall she is scheduled to appear in Wendy Wasserstein’s last play THIRD at the Oldcastle Theatre.
