Annual Fall Concert Band Performance

The GMC/Community Concert Band will perform its annual fall concert on November 21 at 7 p.m. in Ackley Hall. Directed by prof. James Cassarino (music), the ensemble will play works by Monteverdi, Vaughan Williams, Mendelssohn, Mozart, and Ravel. Highlights will include Monterverdi’s Toccata for double ensemble, and the second movement from Mozart’s Piano Concerto # 21. The piano soloist will be Jean Sutton, director of applied music at GMC. The band includes students, faculty, and members of the community. The concert is free and open to the public.

GMC Choir and "We Are the Men" Join in Benefit Concert

The Slate Valley Museum in Granville, N.Y., built to commemorate an industry that drew much of its labor force from Welsh immigrants, was badly damaged by flooding from Hurricane Irene. To lend a helping hand, GMC’s choir and “We Are The Men,” a 30-member male voice choir from Cape Cod which performs songs in the Welsh tradition, raised their voices together in a benefit concert on Saturday evening, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Ackley Hall. Proceeds went towards repairs to the State Valley Museum.

Ceremonial music by Buxtehude, Bach and Handel. In recognition of the 300th anniversary of Dietrich Buxtehude’s death, the choir performed his celebratory cantatas ‘Rejoice, Earth and Heaven’ and ‘Cantante Domino.’
