GMC Earns Perfect Environmental Rating in Princeton Review’s
 The Best 378 Colleges

POULTNEY-- Green Mountain College continues to earn accolades as one of the greenest colleges in the country. GMC received a perfect “99” green rating in the 2014 edition of The Princeton Review’s The Best 378 Colleges guide released yesterday.

The Princeton Review tallied scores of 832 higher education institutions based on environmentally related practices, policies and academic offerings on a scale of 60 to 99. Only 22 colleges nationwide received a perfect score. It was the second year in a row that GMC has made the Princeton Review’s Green Honor Roll.

"Green Mountain’s strategic plan, Sustainability 2020, keeps us on the cutting edge of sustainability in academic programs and operations," said Aaron Witham, Green Mountain College’s sustainability coordinator. “Our students, staff, and faculty are always thinking about how to push us into the next frontier, whether it’s through our recent divestment from fossil fuels in our endowment, our new Renewable Energy and Ecological design bachelors program or our low residency masters in Sustainable Food Systems.”

"The schools on our ‘Green Rating’ Honor Roll demonstrated truly exceptional commitments to sustainability across key issues we looked at from course offerings and recycling programs to plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We salute their administrators, faculty, and students for their collective efforts to protect and preserve our environment," said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review senior vice-president and publisher.

Franek noted the increasing interest among students in attending "green" colleges. Among 9,955 college applicants The Princeton Review surveyed in 2013 for its "College Hopes & Worries Survey," 62% said having information about a college's commitment to the environment would impact their decision to apply to or attend a school.

Inclusion in the prestigious The Best 378 Colleges guide identifies Green Mountain College as one of the nation's best institutions for undergraduate education. Only about 15% of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges, and only four colleges outside the U.S.A. are profiled in the book, which is The Princeton Review's flagship college guide.
