Green Mountain College Names Erin Bellomo
Women's Volleyball Coach
POULTNEY, VT- The Green Mountain College athletic department is happy to announce the appointment of Erin Bellomo as the new head women's volleyball coach for the Eagles.
"I am so very pleased that Coach Bellomo will be joining the Eagle athletic family," commented GMC Athletic Director Marybeth Lennox. "She brings us a tremendous level of knowledge about the game of volleyball, solid coaching experience, and a competitiveness that will help us continue to grow this program."
Coach Bellomo arrives at GMC with a wealth of playing and coaching experience. As a three-sport (cross-country, basketball, volleyball) collegiate student-athlete at NCAA Division II Quinipiac University, Bellomo lead the volleyball squad to three consecutive winning seasons culminating with a 30-10 mark in 1997 and perfect 10-0 record in the Northeast-10 Conference. Overall, she accumulated a 77-43 record over her three seasons with the Bobcats, including a trip to Barbados where her team claimed victory over the hosts' national team.
"I am truly excited and anxious for the opportunity to get back into coaching the sport that I love," said Bellomo. "I have played for a variety of coaches throughout the years that have impacted me greatly, and I look forward to working hard to establish a strong program at GMC."
A senior systems engineer for EMC's CMA software division, Coach Bellomo graduated magna cum laude with a double major in computer science and marketing.
Bellomo's coaching experience includes stints as the women's volleyball coach at New Hartford H.S. (New Hartford, N.Y.), women's basketball and lacrosse (Pleasanton, Cal.), and junior varsity/varsity lacrosse at Rutland high school (2004-2007).
Coach Bellomo takes over a program that finished with a 16-5 mark in 2008 and appeared in the North Atlantic Conference semi-final. Returning student-athletes for the 2009 campaign include NAC All-Conference 1st team selection senior Emma Buckley (Lakeville, Conn.) who finished 2008 nationally ranked in three categories and sophomore Ify Umeugo (New Haven, Conn.) who landed on the second team. After three years at the helm, coach Todd Montana is leaving his post to focus solely on the continued success of the GMC men's basketball team.
Coach Bellomo lives in Rutland with her husband Nathan and their three children Karsyn, Lanza, and Gradyn.
