When you live between the Taconic and the Green Mountains, you need to be able to get out and stretch your legs every once in a while. Or maybe always. Enter Green Mountain Adventure Programming (GreenMAP).
GreenMAP is your passageway to adventure and outdoor education in the GMC community. We believe in recreational access for everyone, and towards that goal we provide super-low cost equipment rentals, recreational and instructional adventure programs and the Wilderness Challenge orientation program for our students.
The Function of Leadership is to Produce More Leaders
At the heart of the GreenMAP program are our Trip Leaders. This is a leadership commitment open to all students, and combines skill-building in structured experience development, activity-specific training, wilderness medicine, mentoring, reflection, and evaluation–all within the spirit of adventure. These qualities enrich the programs that GreenMAP provides, which is probably the reason why GMC graduates often cite their GreenMAP adventures as some of their most rewarding memories of life at GMC.
GreenMAP offers a wide variety of volunteer-led trips, ranging from single day introduction courses to week long adventures. Trips are FREE, student led outings open to the entire Green Mountain College community.

The Kellen Sams-GreenMAP Scholarship
In honor of Kellen Sam’s commitment to adventure recreation and outdoor experiential education of the highest quality, Kellen’s family and friends joined with GreenMAP in 2013 to establish the Kellen Sams-GreenMAP Scholarship for Professional Development. The purpose of the fund is to further Kellen’s legacy by providing outdoor-based professional development opportunities for GreenMAP Leaders.
The Green MAP Office and Rental Shop is located in the basement of Withey Hall on the GMC Campus, and is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Contact the office at 287-8383 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
