A key part of our Sustainability 2020 Strategic Plan under initiative 1 is to “Strengthen College/community partnerships to enhance the vibrancy of the local communities.” At GMC we are committed to educating the next generation of transformational leaders that will foster meaningful change in their communities and the broader world. Through our work in the Community Outreach and Service Learning programs, we demonstrate our commitment to this mission by providing students with hands-on experiences that immerse them in their immediate communities through volunteering and service learning.
Our hope is that through these activities they can develop their leadership skills and establish long-lasting relationships as they carry out their careers. The Outreach Program and Service-Learning programs are run through a collaboration between the Sustainability Office and faculty Director of Service Learning. Together, they are responsible for assisting with the coordination of ongoing civic engagement projects and helping students and faculty find new ways to engage with community partners.
