Making and understanding art involves emotional, intuitive, logical and abstract thought processes. No other practice engages our minds in such a way. These very things make us human, and within that make us individuals. For this reason, the creation of art has become increasingly important. As we are confronted with escalating social, political and global concerns, the teaching of art is instrumental to perpetuating creativity and the voice of the individual. Artistic thought processes help us confront challenges in new and unconventional ways. Teaching is a catalyst for the development of creative thought and practice in my students; simultaneously, it nurtures my own studio work. In both spheres I bring attention to unique human qualities and modes of expression with belief that art fosters inspiration and change.
