Creativity in the artistic environment brings shape and energy to our courses, majors, and department. Flexibility in program design allows a student to fully develop individual talents. Hands-on experience at related facilities in Vermont, such as at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in West Rutland, allows a student to earn course credit while participating in a professional setting.

A vibrant community of visual artists makes up the Art Department at Green Mountain College. Regular showings at the Surdam Art Gallery and frequent visiting scholar appearances at the Feick Art Center on campus provide a steady creative inlet for visual artists, which they can apply to their art in the Surdam Art Building, featuring a ceramics kiln, photo lab, and a variety of spacious painting and sculpting studios.
