Welcome to Visual & Performing Arts
Home of Art, Fine Arts, Arts Management, Music & Theatre
Creativity in the artistic environment brings shape and energy to our courses, majors, and department. Flexibility in program design allows a student to fully develop individual talents. Hands-on experience at related facilities in Vermont, the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in West Rutland or the Dorset Theatre Festival, allows a student to earn course credit while participating in a professional setting.
A vibrant community of visual and performing artists makes up the Art Department at Green Mountain College. Regular showings at the Surdam Art Gallery and frequent visiting scholar appearances at the Feick Art Center on campus provide a steady creative inlet for visual artists, which they can apply to their art in the Surdam Art Building, featuring a ceramics kiln, photo lab, and a variety of spacious painting and sculpting studios.
Performing artists also have plenty of opportunities to practice their creative passion, whether that be with the GMC Choir, which has toured Wales twice and remains the only American choir to perform Welsh hymns and folksongs at each of its performances, the jazz ensemble, the theatre department, which performs plays every semester in the college's Ackley Theatre, the concert band, or getting their rhythm in the West African Djembe class.
