Favorite course to teach: History of the English Language: I get to do accents!

Interests/hobbies: Jazz of just about every variety; movies, especially Film Noir and Westerns.

Toughest class I took in college: Botany

Something surprising about me: Back in 1967 I was the first white youth worker ever to be hired by the Harlem YMCA.

What "the environment" means to me: Taking meaningful political action to protect the irreplaceable.

Research interests: The "Transition Period" in British literature between late Victorianism and Modernism; crime fiction.

Best concert I've seen: Sun Ra at Slug's, 1973.

Recommended movie:
Shoot the Piano Player.

Book I recently enjoyed: Nothing to Be Frightened Of, by Julian Barnes.

Best place I've traveled to: Nice, France.

Favorite research project with a student: Creating radio comedy.
