About Green Mountain College Closure
On Wednesday, January 23, 2019 the Board of Trustees of Green Mountain College (GMC) voted to close the College at the end of the academic year.
With the college age population decline in Vermont and New England over the past decade projected to continue, there has been an associated decline in undergraduate enrollment. At the same time, the costs of providing the quality education that GMC students want and deserve have remained stable or have increased. That combination of a decrease in students and an increase in the costs of providing unique programming have overstrained GMC finances. The GMC campus will wind down all operations in Vermont after commencement in May.
Teach-out agreements with other colleges have been arranged and will provide pathways for all GMC students to complete their education. One college in particular, Prescott College in Arizona, a founding member of the EcoLeague, has been selected as a preferred partner.
Green Mountain College remains committed to helping all students complete their degrees on time and within their original budget. Now through commencement, the staff will work tirelessly to help students find the right path.
