Teach-out agreements with the institutions listed below have been arranged and will provide pathways for all GMC students to complete their education. Green Mountain College is also coordinating several on-campus college fairs, which will give students an opportunity to chat with transfer admission counselors from a large number of colleges and universities, including those with which GMC does not have a teach-out agreement.
Teach-Out Agreement Provisions for GMC Students Summarized
What is a teach-out agreement? A teach-out agreement is a written agreement between institutions that provides for the equitable treatment of students when one of those institutions has stopped offering an educational program before all students enrolled in that program completed the program.
Note: Listed alphabetically. All agreements, except Prescott’s, stipulate that the partner institution’s obligations pursuant to the agreement shall terminate when all GMC students accepted pursuant to the agreement have graduated from the partner institution or have failed to be continuously enrolled in that partner institution or four years from the date of this agreement (or from July 1, 2019), whichever comes first.
- Alaska Pacific University will waive admission application fees for students applying through this agreement.
- Alaska Pacific University will accept all currently matriculated students who are pursuing a degree offered by Alaska Pacific University and who are in good conduct and good academic standing at Green Mountain College as of May 19, 2019.
- Alaska Pacific University will accept academic credits completed at or transferred into Green Mountain College with regard to fulfilling general education and major requirements so as to facilitate timely degree completion.
- Alaska Pacific University will provide a financial aid package to each student that creates an equivalent or lower net tuition expense for 2019-2020 as the student was billed by Green Mountain College in 2018-2019.
- Green Mountain College will provide official final transcripts and financial aid award letters or account statements for all students who apply to Alaska Pacific University.
- Alaska Pacific University will provide courses for degrees for which it is approved in a timely manner so as to facilitate students’ completion of a degree.
- Any Green Mountain College student who fails to apply, be accepted, and matriculate at Alaska Pacific University by September 1, 2019 shall be excluded from this agreement.
- Castleton University will waive admission application fees for students applying to Castleton through this agreement.
- Castleton will provide a financial aid package to each GMC student applying to Castleton pursuant to this Agreement such that the GMC student shall pay an equivalent or lower net amount of tuition expense for 2019-2020 as the student was billed by Green Mountain College in 2018-2019, provided that no GMC student will be charged less than the equivalent of Vermont resident tuition at Castleton.
- Castleton will accept all currently matriculated students who are in good conduct and good academic standing at Green Mountain College as of May 19, 2019, including those who may be on a leave of absence or exchange term. Good academic standing shall mean students with:
- Credits attempted 1-15; cumulative GPA >/= 1.7
- Credits attempted 16-30; cumulative GPA >/= 1.8
- Credits attempted 31-45; cumulative GPA >/= 1.9
- Credits attempted 46 and above; cumulative GPA >/=2.0
- Castleton will accept all academic credits completed at or transferred into GMC at grades of D or above, with regard to fulfilling general education and major requirements.
- GMC students enrolling under this Agreement will be required to meet Castleton’s program credit requirements or receive approval at the time of admission for an alternative plan to complete their degree.
- In order to earn a Castleton degree, a GMC student must complete at least 25% of the required total credits for a degree at Castleton or receive approval at the time of admission for a plan to complete their degree at Castleton with fewer than 25% of the total required credits.
- GMC student-athletes currently in the roster of one of GMC’s NAIA athletics teams who enroll at Castleton pursuant to this Agreement shall be given an opportunity by Castleton’s coaching staff to try out for and be considered for a possible roster spot on one of Castleton’s NCAA athletic teams.
- GMC students who enroll at Castleton pursuant to this agreement will be eligible for housing on the same terms and conditions as Castleton students. In the event that Castleton lacks sufficient capacity to house all housing-eligible students at its Castleton, Vermont campus, Castleton will provide alternative housing and, at Castleton’s expense, reasonable transportation to and from the Castleton campus.
- GMC will provide official final transcripts and other records pertinent to each GMC student (including financial aid packages and accounts receivable information as appropriate) who enrolls at Castleton pursuant to this Agreement at no cost. Castleton will house these records. GMC shall provide the records to Castleton within 10 business days of each GMC student finalizing their attendance with Castleton’s Business Office.
- All of the above terms and conditions shall apply in the event a GMC student should choose to apply to one of the VSCS’s other member institutions, namely, Northern Vermont University or Vermont Technical College.
Chatham University will accept all Green Mountain College matriculated students interested in transferring to Chatham University through this teach-out agreement, including graduate students.
Chatham University will waive admission application fees for students applying through this teach-out agreement.
Students applying through this teach-out agreement will be eligible for a financial aid package that creates an equivalent or lower net tuition expense for 2019-2020 as the student was billed by Green Mountain College in 2018-2019. Green Mountain College will provide a record of current financial aid packages for all students that apply to Chatham University.
Chatham University will suspend its residency requirement for rising Green Mountain College seniors transferring under this Agreement. For rising seniors, Chatham University will also waive the requirement that at least 50 percent of the credits applicable to a major or minor be earned at Chatham University.
Chatham University will offer only those courses of study for which it is already approved and will not be expected to adjust its curriculum.
Chatham University will accept all earned credit as well as calculated grade point average (inclusive of those credits earned at Green Mountain College and those credits awarded by Green Mountain College) based on Green Mountain College’s completed evaluation of applicable credit.
Chatham University agrees to evaluate Green Mountain College general education courses with an effort to accept as many as possible to meet the Chatham University general education requirements. Students transferring as rising juniors or seniors will be expected to complete the Green Mountain College general education requirements using equivalent Chatham University courses. They must also complete the Chatham University capstone course, Integrative Capstone Seminar. Students transferring as rising sophomores will be expected to complete all Chatham University general education requirements.
Any Green Mountain College student who fails to apply, be accepted, and matriculate at Chatham University by the Fall 2019 semester shall be excluded from this Agreement.
Students enrolling under this Agreement will be required to meet Chatham University’s program length requirement.
Chatham University will permanently house the records of Green Mountain College students who officially enroll at Chatham University pursuant to this Agreement. The records will arrive within 10 days of each student finalizing enrollment with the Chatham University Office of Admission.
Chatham University will accept students who are in good social and academic standing as of January 1, 2019, as well as students on academic probation or warning with the understanding that Chatham University will review student eligibility and that students must achieve expected credit and GPA requirements to graduate from Chatham University.
- College of the Atlantic will waive admission application fees for students applying through this agreement.
- College of the Atlantic will accept only currently matriculated students who are in good conduct and good academic and financial standing at Green Mountain College as of May 19, 2019.
- College of the Atlantic will enroll up to 40 Green Mountain College students pursuant to this agreement.
- College of the Atlantic will accept all academic credits completed at or transferred into Green Mountain College with regard to fulfilling degree requirements so as to facilitate timely degree completion, as detailed here:
- College of the Atlantic will provide transfer credit towards a degree for grades of D- or better.
- Transferred courses with grades of C or better can be used to meet degree requirements (resource area requirements) at College of the Atlantic.
- Green Mountain College students entering College of the Atlantic with more than two years of transfer credits:
- Will have the human ecology essay requirement waived;
- May petition to take coursework instead of the senior project requirement if they can demonstrate curricular need;
- May petition to complete the internship requirement using an internship undertaken during their time at Green Mountain College.
- The writing portfolio requirement may be fulfilled either fully or partially using writing completed by the student as part of Green Mountain College courses or programs.
- College of the Atlantic cannot accept or award credit for physical education classes, as per the college’s agreement with the New England Commission of Higher Education.
- College of the Atlantic will determine a financial aid package for each student using its normal packaging formulas. Given the difference in tuition and fees at College of the Atlantic and Green Mountain College, the parties acknowledge that there may be discrepancies in the institutional calculations of net cost to the student.
In these cases, College of the Atlantic will work to bring the student’s net tuition for 2019-2020 as close as possible to the net tuition billed by Green Mountain College in 2018-2019.
- Green Mountain College will provide official final transcripts for all students who transfer to College of the Atlantic.
Any Green Mountain College student who fails to apply, be accepted, and matriculate at College of the Atlantic by September 1, 2019 shall be excluded from this agreement.
- Marlboro College will waive admission application fees for students applying through this agreement.
- Marlboro College will accept currently matriculated students who are in good conduct and good academic standing at Green Mountain College as of May 19, 2019, including those who may be on a leave of absence.
- Marlboro College will accept academic credits completed at or transferred into Green Mountain College with regard to fulfilling general education and major requirements so as to facilitate timely degree completion. This includes grades of D or above, but not incompletes.
- Marlboro College will provide a financial aid package to each student that creates an equivalent or lower net tuition expense for 2019-2020 as the student was billed by Green Mountain College in 2018-2019. Green Mountain College will provide a record of current financial aid packages for all students that apply to Marlboro College.
- Green Mountain College will provide official final transcripts for all students who transfer to Marlboro College.
- Marlboro College will provide courses for degrees for which it is approved in a timely manner so as to facilitate students’ completion of a degree.
- Any Green Mountain College student who fails to apply, be accepted, and matriculate at Marlboro College by September 1, 2019 shall be excluded from this agreement.
- Paul Smith’s College will waive admission application fees for students applying through this agreement.
- Paul Smith’s College will accept currently matriculated students who are in good conduct and good academic standing at Green Mountain College as of May 19, 2019, including those who may be on a leave of absence.
- Paul Smith’s College will accept academic credits completed at or transferred into Green Mountain College with regard to fulfilling general education and major requirements so as to facilitate timely degree completion. This includes grades of D or above, but not incompletes.
- Paul Smith’s College will provide a financial aid package to each student that creates an equivalent or lower net tuition expense for 2019-2020 as the student was billed by Green Mountain College in 2018-2019. Green Mountain College will provide a record of current financial aid packages for all students that apply to Paul Smith’s College.
- Green Mountain College will provide official final transcripts for all students who transfer to Paul Smith’s College.
- Paul Smith’s College will provide courses for degrees for which it is approved in a timely manner so as to facilitate students’ completion of a degree.
- Any Green Mountain College student who fails to apply, be accepted, and matriculate at Paul Smith’s College by September 1, 2019 shall be excluded from this agreement.
- Provide information and advising to all current and prospective Green Mountain students about options and pathways for completing their degrees within existing degree programs at Prescott College through Prescott College’s on-campus and/or online deliveries. With the exception of some requirements in Prescott College’s professional preparation programs that result in certification or licensure, Prescott College’s approach to individualized degree planning allows Green Mountain degree plans to be used more or less “as is” on Prescott College degree plans. Green Mountain students may complete their degree plans using Prescott College on-campus or online courses in combination with individualized mentored studies courses which result in individualized course titles on the Prescott College transcript. Undergraduate and graduate degree plans may specify an individualized concentration title that will be listed on diploma and transcript so that Green Mountain College degree titles carry forward to Prescott College records. (See attached program crosswalk).
- Provide 100% transfer of all credits granted or accepted as transfer by Green Mountain including graduate credits, guarantee admission with no application fees, and guarantee a matched net tuition price or better for each student.
- Extend all scholarship and aid programs to Green Mountain College students, including the new Changemaker Scholarships as well as the significantly discounted master’s degree options for undergraduate students pursuing accelerated pathways into graduate study at Prescott College.
- Waive minimum enrollment time and credit requirements at Prescott College.
- Commit staff and faculty time to work with Green Mountain faculty, advisors and enrollment management staff to support each individual student in preparing for transfer and teach-out at Prescott College including development of individualized degree plans.
- Create the Green Mountain Center (or similarly named institute or school) at Prescott College in order to recognize the legacy of Green Mountain College’s leadership in sustainability and higher education and to create a home for Green Mountain faculty and students at Prescott College.
- Designate at least one of Prescott College’s Leed Platinum Student Townhouses (and other student housing if necessary) for Green Mountain College students who would like to live together while completing their programs at the Prescott College main campus.
- Prescott College faculty will collaborate with their new Green Mountain colleagues in the current online course development processes for new Prescott College (PC) degree titles. The first wave of collaboratively developed online courses will be offered to GM (and PC) students in fall 2019 alongside existing PC courses and individualized mentored studies.
- Submit a substantive change request for HLC approval of new graduate degree titles that are well aligned with those from Green Mountain College.
- Hire additional Green Mountain College faculty members from other program areas as part-time Associate Faculty members effective February 1, 2019 in order to assure that there is adequate Green Mountain faculty continuity and collaboration with Prescott College faculty and staff in advising students, and developing degree plans across program areas.
- In order to keep the Green Mountain learning community as intact as possible, Prescott College will offer opportunities for Green Mountain College faculty from all programs to be hired at Prescott College to continue to work with their students via on-campus and/or online deliveries. The number of FTE hires from Green Mountain will be dependent upon enrollment of Green Mountain students at Prescott College.
- Depending upon enrollment projections and Prescott College staffing plans, Prescott College will prioritize the hiring of key Green Mountain College staff (e.g., those involved in student services functions, e.g., registrar, advising, admissions and recruiting).
- Deploy an advising, academic support and student services team to support the success of continuing Green Mountain College students.
- Print “Green Mountain Center” (or similar) on Prescott College diplomas for Green Mountain College students graduating from Prescott College.
- Serve as custodian of record for Green Mountain College student education records. [Contingent on regulatory approval.]
- Sterling College will waive admission application fees for students applying through this agreement.
- Sterling College will accept currently matriculated students who are in good conduct and good academic standing at Green Mountain College as of May 19, 2019, including those who may be on a leave of absence.
- Sterling College will accept academic credits completed at or transferred into Green Mountain College with regard to fulfilling general education and major requirements so as to facilitate timely degree completion. This includes grades of D or above, but not incompletes.
- Sterling College will provide a financial aid package to each student that creates an equivalent or lower net tuition expense for 2019-2020 as the student was billed by Green Mountain College in 2018-2019. Green Mountain College will provide a record of current financial aid packages for all students that apply to Sterling College.
- Green Mountain College will provide official final transcripts for all students who transfer to Sterling College.
- Sterling College will provide courses for degrees for which it is approved in a timely manner so as to facilitate students’ completion of a degree.
- Any Green Mountain College student who fails to apply, be accepted, and matriculate at Sterling College by April 1, 2019 for Summer Semester 2019, August 1, 2019 for Fall Semester 2019, and October 1, 2019 for Spring Semester 2020shall be excluded from this agreement.
- Sterling College reserves the right to cap the number of Green Mountain students enrolling under this teach-out agreement based on availability of residential living space.
- Unity College will waive admission application fees for students applying through this agreement and create a shortened streamlined application available only to Green Mountain students entering Unity College by the terms of this agreement.
- Unity College will accept currently matriculated students who are in good conduct and good academic standing at Green Mountain College as of May 19, 2019, including those who may be on a leave of absence.
- Unity College will accept academic credits completed at or transferred into Green Mountain College with regard to fulfilling general education and major requirements so as to facilitate timely degree completion. The 90 total credit hour and 40 elective credit hour limits normally applied to transfer students will be waived. This includes grades of D or above, but not incompletes.
- Flagship Students: Unity College will provide a financial aid package to each Green Mountain student choosing to matriculate into the Unity College Flagship through the streamlined application created. Green Mountain students enrolling at the Unity College Flagship campus & residing in our College Housing will receive a Green Mountain Flagship Residential Teach-Out Grant that provides for 60% reduction in standard 2019-20 Unity College Flagship tuition. Students choosing only to enroll in, but not reside at College Housing, at the Unity College Flagship campus will receive a Green Mountain Flagship Teach-Out Grant that provides for 50% reduction in standard 2019-20 Unity College Flagship tuition. Both grants offer lower tuition rates than our standard Transfer-Trustee and Transfer Scholarships and Green Mountain students entering Unity College by the terms of this agreement are not eligible for the standard transfer scholarships as stackable.
- Distance Education Students: Unity College will provide a financial aid package to Green Mountain students choosing to matriculate into Unity College Distance Education through the streamlined application created. Green Mountain students enrolling in Unity College Undergraduate and/or Graduate Distance Education programs will receive a Green Mountain Distance Education Teach-Out Grant that provides 20% reduction in standard 2019-20 Unity College Distance Education tuition rates. Unity College does not offer institutional aid for distance education students.
- Green Mountain College will provide a record of current financial aid packages for all students that apply to the Flagship and Distance Education Sustainable Education Business Units at Unity College.
- Unity College will develop a transition plan to best support Green Mountain students choosing to enroll at Unity College. This will include strategies for communication with students, assembly of a student support transition team, and designation of Unity College staff and faculty liaisons to provide individualized advising for Green Mountain students. The transition plan will include arranging 2 visits of Unity College representatives to the Green Mountain campus to offer individualized academic and administrative services relating to academics, registrar, financial aid, and other transfer student needs.
- Should Unity College enrollments require additional employees, special consideration will be given to Green Mountain staff and faculty possessing the appropriate qualifications for new position created that support the incoming Green Mountain Teach-Out eligible students.
- Green Mountain College will provide official final transcripts for all students who transfer to Unity College.
- Unity College will provide courses for degrees for which it is approved in a timely manner so as to facilitate students’ completion of a degree based on projection at time of transfer.
- Any Green Mountain College student who fails to apply, be accepted, and matriculate at Unity College by September 1, 2019 shall be excluded from this agreement.
- Upon matriculation, all students accepted under this agreement will follow the policies specific to the student handbook for the Unity College Sustainable Education Business Unit (Flagship or Distance Education). Unity College enterprise-wide policies apply to all students.
